I specialize in trauma-informed, clothed bodywork.

I use touch and communication to help you connect to your body, your wisdom, and your power.

I believe that you hold the key to your own healing. I bring knowledge, skills, and my intuition to facilitate you and your body unlocking what has been stuck.

the way of nature

My trust in myself and you is informed by the Taoist theories underlying the acupressure system I use:

  • everything contains its opposite, and everything is meant to change - as shown in the yin yang symbol

  • seasonal energy cycles - the 5 elemental energies in Chinese medicine - flow through us as well

I respect your body and your being and all that they might carry. I expect the unexpected.

I have skills and gifts that allow me to trust myself, as well as you and your body.

In more clinical terms, it means I have an understanding of the neurological and somatic impact of trauma that I utilize within my scope of practice.

invitational modalities

I use Jin Shin Do® Bodymind Acupressure® ** as my framework, and often focus on the deeper energy flows that relate to chronic stress response. Craniosacral therapy and fascial work compliment release of specific points and areas.

In practice...

I might find a really tight point somewhere in the shoulder, and invite the client to notice that.

focusing attention

These techniques offer the opportunity for the body to release chronic tension built up over time - or, call attention to the rigidity or holding of that tension. Images, emotions, or memories may arise.

In practice...

While I"m holding that shoulder point, a client might remember a fight with a close friend. It might bring images of childhood conflicts.

 choice

From the room temperature to all touch and communication, I emphasize choice. Including and especially, what to sit with.

In practice...

If it's not ok to sit with that point or those memories, I change points.

If it is ok to sit with, the point might get more tight, not less! We notice that. Or it might release all at once, and tears might flow.

how does that help?

noticing and naming

It takes a lot of energy and muscle tension to hold in our authentic expressions all the time - noticing what is true without the need to censor it can be liberating.

nervous system regulation

The modalities I use - including an energy flow named 'The Regulator' are helpful for NVS regulation! This benefits many different symptoms and challenges.

sustainable change

Releasing tension slowly, with  space held for verbal and nonverbal expression of what is true - allows for more sustainable change. Invitations > demands.

accessing the subconscious

The specific flows and points I work, my presence, and my voice often create a gentle, trance-like state. Access to the inner world, through the body, provides deep insight - and joy.

Jin Shin Do® Bodymind Acupressure® is not intended for the diagnosis, treatment or cure of disease. It is a relaxation therapy, and a useful adjunct to licensed, qualified medical or psychological care. For any persistent pain or symptom, even a seemingly minor one, the reader is strongly encouraged to consult a medical doctor. When used in conjunction with standard medical treatment, the Jin Shin Do® Acupressure technique can assist the healing process by releasing tension, decreasing stress and encouraging a sense of increased well-being.

“The Way of the Compassionate Spirit”

“Jin Shin Do” means “The Way of the Compassionate Spirit.” Jin Shin Do® Bodymind Acupressure® classes teach the use of gentle yet deep finger pressure on specific acu-points and verbal Body Focusing techniques to help release “armoring” or chronic tension, balance the “Qi” or energy, and improve vitality.

A unique synthesis of ancient and modern wisdom

This clothes-on method helps relieve stress- and trauma-related problems. A unique synthesis of a traditional Japanese acupressure technique, classic Chinese acupuncture and acupressure theory, Taoist philosophy, Qigong (breathing and exercise techniques), Reichian segmental theory and principles of Ericksonian psychotherapy, it is recognized as a major form of Asian Bodywork Therapy (by NCCAOM & AOBTA® among others).

Founded by Iona Marsaa Teeguarden, MA, LMFT

Originated by psychotherapist Iona Marsaa Teeguarden, Jin Shin Do® acupressure promotes a pleasant trancelike state, in which one can relax and move out of the head and into the body, accessing feelings and inner wisdom. For more info, visit The Jin Shin Do ® Foundation website.
