After my first energy healing session, I felt more serene than I perhaps ever had, and I felt different - lighter, freer - for a couple of weeks! I was caregiving for my mother in the middle of her terminal illness, and 4 years before I had cared for my father before he died.
From here, you can check out my personal story, my practice story, my former career story, and my training/credentials.
Through subsequent energy and bodywork sessions, and with the power of the communities with whom I studied, I learned to listen to my own body, to un-thaw the frozen muscles and feelings I had held in for 40+ years.
One of my mentors frequently says, "we wound alone; we heal together." I did not believe that I could be safe with other people, much less be seen at my most authentic. The only way I could - and did - come to believe differently was through the embodied experience of seeing and being seen, and the world not ending, over and over. My body needed new muscle memories of safety! And through my body changing, I claimed my wisdom and my power.
For me, therapy and bodywork - and the quality of the spaces held for me by a variety of practitioners and peers - helped me heal from past trauma and present addictions through facilitating safe embodiment.
At Being Present: Holistic Bodywork, I offer a stable, safe presence. I combine that presence with bodywork (touch), supportive communication, meditative visualizations, and movement as appropriate. And, I'm frequently part of a team, as many of my clients, like me, benefit from a mix of practitioners across disciplines.
My practice name, Being Present, reflects
my approach, and it stems not only from my personal healing journey, but also my former career.
I was responsible for adapting the project design and conducting training in partnership with human rights groups and other community organizations. Everywhere I went, from Bangladesh, to Kyrgyzstan, to Senegal - I found that my actual work was to deeply listen and be present with the reality on the ground.
I bring those lessons to working with clients now; and I find that the ability to communicate across language/referential barriers, to facilitate and support the wisdom and strengths of the people around me, and to be satisfied with small changes over time, are all profoundly useful in my work today.
